In recent years, the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) approach has gained importance in the education process all over the world. STEM education; students' summer camps, museum training, etc. It can also be applied in out-of-school learning environments. In the 2023 Vision of the Ministry of National Education, “In the next 3-year period, at primary, secondary and high school levels, students, teachers, education administrators, public, curriculum, educational content, etc. With the studies to be carried out, it will be possible to integrate production skills such as coding, 3D design, electronic design into learning processes.” The expression emphasizes out-of-school learning environments and STEM education. In this context, it is thought that STEM activities that can be applied in out-of-school learning environments will make the education-teaching process productive.
In the book consisting of 17 chapters; the aforementioned out-of-school learning environments were introduced and examples of STEM activities that could be done in these out-of-school learning environments were given. With these examples of STEM activities, which were inspired by the lessons taught in out-of-school learning environments, out-of-school learning environments and STEM education were combined. Also in the book; Out-of-school learning environments that are not frequently mentioned in the literature such as parks, coffee-book environments, greenhouses, sample/excavation sites, coding workshops, digital/virtual out-of-school learning environments are also included.
It is thought that this book, which we think will contribute to both national and international literature, can be easily used by teachers, teacher candidates and academicians from all branches and levels, with a planned practice discipline rather than theory.
Cross the borders with STEM in the construction of the future!
