According to DSM-5, Abnormal Psychology is a basic reference book that examines abnormal aspects of human behavior and psychological disorders, that can respond to the needs of professionals working in the field of mental health and students studying in psychology and psychological counseling and guidance departments. This book is one of the first original books written in Turkish in the field of abnormal psychology, based on the DSM-5 diagnostic categories and criteria, published in May 2013.
In the first chapters of the book, the definition of abnormal psychology and its historical development, current approaches to understanding abnormal psychological disorders, and diagnosis, evaluation and research methods are discussed. In the following sections, psychological disorders in the DSM-5 are discussed and information about the general appearance, diagnostic criteria and incidence of these disorders is presented. In addition, hereditary and environmental factors and current models related to the formation of psychological disorders are included. The chapters end with the methods used in the treatment of psychological disorders. In the last part, ethical and legal issues related to abnormal psychology are mentioned.
While the book is being prepared, comprehensive and up-to-date information has been compiled in each chapter, which includes current information and research findings on abnormal behavior and mental disorders, as well as important cultural issues and studies carried out in Turkey. This information presented in the book is supported by case examples and current discussions.
We believe that the Abnormal Psychology book will be an understandable and rich resource for experts and students working in the field, and will make an important contribution to the field of mental health in Turkey.
